Kent County Council Trading Standards have also issued the following information regarding the laws governing the sale and use of fireworks:

  • If you let off any fireworks in a public place, you can be fined up to £5000 or issued with an £80 Fixed Penalty Notice.
  • You may not set off fireworks between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am (extended to midnight on Bonfire Night, and 1am on New Year’s Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year).
  • It is illegal sell bangers, mini rockets, fireworks that fly erratically (Squibs, helicopters etc), aerial shells and maroons.
  • If you sell fireworks to anyone under 18 years of age you could face a maximum penalty of £5000 and/or 6 months imprisonment.

The police have the power to stop and search anyone suspected of carrying fireworks
